Crane Components
Crane Dimensions
Enclosed track ceiling mounted workstation bridge crane kits by SPANCO are supplied in standard sizes
ranging from 250 lb to 4000 lb capacity, up to 34 feet bridge crane spans and runway lengths to 124 feet.
Ceiling mounted workstation bridge crane systems are pre-engineered and designed to hang from overhead
building steel such as roof beams or trusses. Plain runway tracks are supported on a maximum of 6
feet centers for 250 lb., 500 lb., 1000 lb., and 4000 lb. capacity and 9 feet centers for 2000 lb.
capacity. Trussed runways are supported on centers up to 30 feet. A custom designed three runway
system can support longer than standard bridge crane lengths for greater coverage.
Ceiling mounted enclosed track bridge cranes are supported by the building structure. A qualified
architect or engineer should be consulted to determine the adequacy of the building structure intended
to support the bridge crane system.
Features
SPANCO ceiling mounted workstation bridge crane systems are designed to meet Seismic Zone 4 requirements,
assuming that the building structure from which it is hung also meets the same requirements.
Standard bridge crane hanger arrangement attaches to roof steel with adjustable beam clamp to fit
flange widths between 2 ½” & 8”. Standard hanger rod is 12” in length. (Longer as required)
SPANCO ceiling mounted workstation bridge cranes provide ideal, cost effective material handling solutions:
- If work floor space is limited: Ceiling mounted bridge crane systems provide infinite coverage without
interfering support columns. Bridge cranes can be linked to a monorail or another bridge crane using crane
interlock sections.
- For easy, ergonomic movement: An operator pushing a 1000 lb. load will experience a force of
approximately 10 lb. to begin moving the load and 8 lb. to continue moving the load (100 to 1 ratio).
Manual cranes also operate more quickly than motorized cranes, making enclosed track workstation bridge
cranes ideal for fast paced work environments.
Customization
Bridge cranes with a ceiling mounted modular design allow runways to be extended to any length.
If the application requires moving heavier loads up to two tons or bridge travel over an inaccessible area,
a motorized system can be used efficiently. SPANCO can provide motorized systems in 1000, 2000, and 4000 lb.
capacities using SPANCO’s tractor drives.
Enclosed track free standing workstation bridge cranes by SPANCO can be equipped with lightweight aluminum
ALU-TRACK bridges. Workstation bridge crane systems are modular allowing extension of runways to any length.
Custom ceiling mounted workstation bridge crane systems with telescoping bridges
or cantilevered bridges are available for lifting loads outside the regular crane coverage area.
Flush clamps are an optional way to support runways directly from the building structure.
Design Factor
Nameplate bridge capacity represents the rated load on the hoist hook. The load rating of a hoist shall
not exceed the bridge rating. SPANCO’s design includes an allowance of 15% of nameplate capacity for dead
weight of the trolley and hoist. An additional allowance of 25% of nameplate capacity is also included for impact
Service Factor
SPANCO crane systems are designed not to exceed deflection of 1/450 of span in accordance with ANSI B30.11,
Monorails and Underhung Cranes.
Ceiling Mounted Work Station Bridge Cranes are designed for “heavy service” (with standard air hoists or
electric hoists) as defined be the Monorail Manufacturer’s Association (MMA) as defined:
- System or equipment is used where operational time is up to 100% of the work period and lifted load is at 50% or below rated capacity.
- System or equipment is used where operational time is less than 50% of work period and lifted load is greater than 50% of rated capacity.
- Applications involving vacuums, magnets, or other high impact lifters are considered severe usage (continuous service) and require special design considerations. Please contact factory for special design pricing.
- Consult factory for usage other than moderate and all instances of high cycle rates or high impact applications such as high-speed air or electric hoists, vacuum lifters, or magnets. Factory MUST approve ALL such applications.
