Workstation bridge cranes have become an essential part of the material handling world for workers and companies in a variety of industries and facilities. They cover a rectangular work area that can be designed to fit virtually any length or width. They also allow for complete movement anywhere within the perimeter of the bridge and the track.

Workstation bridge cranes also allow for multiple installation types, including freestanding and ceiling-mounted. Ceiling-mouted Workstation Bridge Cranes are an effective solution for facilities with limited floor space or where ground level obstructions are a concern. They are easy to install, and can be easily interconnected to cover your entire facility. However, it is important to note that when considering installing a ceiling-mounted workstation bridge crane, you should consult with an engineer to determine if your ceiling is capable of supporting the system.

The workstation bridge crane uses a relatively basic design. The runways are supported by columns, and the bridge is mounted to the runways as it travels along the runways to wherever the user desires within the span of the runways. This kind of movement allows for a dual axis of control because you can move a lifting device on the bridge and then you can move the bridge anywhere along the runway. Between the lifting device, the bridge, and the runways, you are given a full range of movement in north, south, east, and west directions. This allows for the maximum versatility of any item being moved by a workstation bridge crane.

The bridges can be moved either electrically or manually to meet your preference. These cranes are designed for lighter-duty lifting capacities. Although there are specialized versions of workstation cranes that can handle heavier loads, standard-lifting capacities for Spanco’s workstation bridge cranes range from 250 pounds up to 4,000 pounds.

A lifting device is used in conjunction with the moving bridge portion of the workstation bridge crane. The range of movement of the lifting device is typically just up and down. But, the lifting device is attached to a trolley on the bridge which is attached to the runways. As a result, the lifting device can travel anywhere along the bridge and within the runways. There are different types of lifting devices that perform specific tasks. A standard hoist will usually employ a chain and hook design to move things that can be latched into the hooks. Meanwhile, a vacuum lift will use air hoses and suction cups to lift smooth things like glass plates.

Workstation bridge cranes are typically used in production or fabrication lines. The workstation bridge crane is beneficial because it can carry a piece of equipment to several different locations, making it easier to transport objects during production.
