Regarding The Installation, Design &  Use Limitations of SPANCO Lifting Products

The following is an abridged list of WARNINGS for the installation, design and use limitations of SPANCO Lifting Products. A list of installation and maintenance warnings for each product can be found in its Installation & Maintenance Manual.

Warnings for All SPANCO Equipment

  1. SPANCO equipment is not, in any way, designed for lifting, supporting, or transporting humans.
  2. The maximum weight of the application should match, NOT exceed, the product’s design weight lifting capacity.
  3. Failure to follow the specified load and mounting limitations can result in property damage, severe bodily injury, and death.

Warnings for Specific SPANCO Equipment

SPANCO WORKSTATION BRIDGE CRANES

  1. Seismic Zone 4: All standard cranes listed in our SPANCO Workstation Bridge Crane literature have been certified general use in Seismic Zone 4 locations per the Uniform Building Code. Prior to placing an order, you must disclose:
  • Applications where cranes will be used in potentially hazardous environments or explosive environments.
  • Applications where cranes will be used in essential facilities like fire departments, military buildings, or communications buildings, or at locations closer than 15km to known seismic sources.
  • Any seismic requirements for a custom engineered crane.

All standard SPANCO Workstation Bridge Cranes conform to UBC and ANSI MH27.2 specifications. Any alternate methods of calculations or different specifications — other than those listed in our specification sheets — must be disclosed prior to placing an order.

  1. SPANCO Ceiling-Mounted Workstation Bridge Cranes must not be supported from any existing building structure without first consulting a qualified architect or engineer for the purpose of determining if the structure is adequate. Failure to follow this procedure can result in property damage, severe bodily injury, and death.

SPANCO Jib Cranes Warnings

  1. SPANCO Jib Cranes must not be supported from any existing building structure without first consulting a qualified architect or engineer for the purpose of determining if the structure is adequate. Failure to follow this procedure can result in property damage, severe bodily injury, and death.
  2. SPANCO Jib Cranes’ booms or I-beams are designed to meet all specifications utilizing a 25% factor of rated load for impact and 15% of rated load for hoist and trolley weight.
  3. SPANCO Freestanding Jib Cranes are designed to be mounted to a permanent concrete foundation. The recommended foundations for a SPANCO freestanding jib crane are based on a soil pressure of 2,500 lbs. per sq. ft. It is solely the customer’s responsibility to provide the proper foundation for the jib crane; there should be no deviation from the recommended foundation size without first consulting a qualified professional. The pipe mast or column of the jib crane is designed to give maximum strength and minimum deflection to resist bending, buckling, and crushing, as well as wear by the trunnion roller assembly. The bearings on SPANCO freestanding jib cranes are designed for a 5000 hour B-10 (who’s standard or spec is B-10?) design life.
  4. SPANCO Workstation Jib Cranes have capacity ratings based on their design load which includes the capacity rating of the crane, plus 15% of the capacity for the weight of the hoist and trolley. The SPANCO design criteria for workstation jib cranes allows the least amount of lifting deflection so as not to hamper the performance of the enclosed track workstation jib crane.

SPANCO Gantry Crane Warnings

  1. SPANCO T Series Gantry Cranes:  SPANCO Detachable Height Adjustment Kits to be used ONLY under no load conditions.
  2. LUG-ALL™ Winch-Hoist Kit for adjusting gantry height to be used ONLY under no load conditions. For use only on SPANCO A Series or Aluminum gantries. Not recommended for motor-driven hoist trolleys.
  3. SPANCO A Series Gantry Cranes: Motorized travel option not available. Not recommended for use with motor-driven hoist trolleys.
  4. SPANCO Aluminum Gantry Cranes: Motorized travel option not available. Not recommended for use with motor-driven hoist trolleys.
  5. SPANCO E Series Gantry Cranes: Motorized travel option not available. Not recommended for use with motor-driven hoist trolleys.

SPANCO Tripod Crane Warnings

As with all SPANCO equipment, SPANCO Tripod Cranes are not, in any way, designed for lifting, supporting, or transporting humans or animals. (?)

SPANCO Monorail Cranes

SPANCO Ceiling-Mounted Monorail Cranes must not be supported from any existing building structure without first consulting a qualified architect or engineer for the purpose of determining if the structure is adequate. Failure to follow this procedure can result in property damage, severe bodily injury, and death.
