Equipment Manufacturer Uses Spanco Bridge Cranes for Complete Material Handling Coverage

Overview

Xtreme Manufacturing is a lift equipment manufacturer based in Henderson, Nevada. Xtreme recently constructed a new 163,000 square-foot facility for the final assembly stages of telescopic handlers, or telehandlers, and aerial lifts. This new facility needed a material handling plan for moving large components into position to complete the assembly.

Xtreme Manufacturing’s previous facility used a system of bridge cranes for final assembly, but they were interested in any solution that would provide the best operation for their new facility. One solution they considered was the use of a Combilift. A Combilift loader was able to provide the necessary capacity, but cost was a limiting factor.

Solution

Ultimately, Xtreme Manufacturing decided to install a series of new Spanco Freestanding Workstation Bridge Cranes. Each bridge crane consists of 152-foot long runways, including runway cantilevers of 12 inches, and two 24-foot bridges. The runways have a capacity of 4,000 pounds. The first bridge on each individual system has a capacity of 2,000 pounds, and the second bridge has a capacity of 4,000 pounds. These systems were also built with a custom orange paint scheme to match the Xtreme Manufacturing company colors.

The Freestanding Workstation Bridge Crane System is used to move heavy components and completed sub-assemblies from their position where they enter the facility to locations where workers can assemble them. The mixed-capacity system design is based on Xtreme Manufacturing’s specific production needs as they handle loads of different sizes and weights. This layout provides a higher level of versatility from a single system.

Impact

The ease of use offered by the Spanco Freestanding Workstation Bridge Crane System allowed Xtreme Manufacturing to implement the new material handling plan quickly. Mike Henderly from Xtreme Manufacturing explained that Spanco was able to offer many of the features they needed: “We chose Spanco due to cost, versatility, quality, and the fact that they are a well-established local manufacturer.”

The Spanco system offers operational versatility that allows it to handle all of their lifting needs within the new facility. The low cost of the complete system also made it a perfect fit for Xtreme Manufacturing’s needs. Spanco was also able to provide an expedited deadline and fast installation so that the system would be ready as soon as it was needed.
