Our Freestanding Jib Cranes

Freestanding jib cranes, also known as cantilever cranes or slewing arm cranes, are bolted to the floor using chemical resin bolts. A freestanding jib crane is one of the most versatile cranes for low-capacity, high-productivity applications. They are available in various mounts depending on the application:

  • Base plate mounted 100 series: These jib cranes are easy to install. Installers use anchor bolts to secure the base plate to a concrete foundation. They connect the pipe mast to the plate with six evenly spaced gussets.
  • Foundation mounted 101 series: This type of floor-mounted jib crane doesn’t use gaskets, freeing up the foot area. The square plate comes welded and joined to the mast’s bottom. The first pour of concrete footing anchors the plate, while the second reinforces the mast.
  • Sleeve insert mounted 102 series: Businesses choose this type of jib crane for a more flexible option that allows for relocation without damaging the mast. Just like the 101 series, this jib crane doesn’t use gussets, either. The sleeve is welded to a square steel plate, which is anchored to the first pour concrete foundation. Installers pour a second concrete foundation to support the sleeve. The final steps position the mast in the sleeve, level it using wedges to ensure proper alignment, and weld it into place.
  • Spanco 500 series: These are smaller, nimble cranes that are faster than motorized jibs. Installers use anchor bolts to secure square or hexagonal mounting plates to standard 6-inch reinforced concrete. Welded gaskets connect the mast to the mounting plates.

Features and Benefits of Freestanding Jib Cranes

Floor-mounted jib cranes provide superior handling and lifting capacity at a lower price than overhead cranes. They are easy to operate and use little overhead space. Freestanding jib cranes have several benefits, including:

  • Sturdy construction
  • Overhead clearance
  • 360 degrees rotation
  • High capacities of up to 15 tons
  • A retaining pin resists accidental upward dislodgement of the head
  • Triangular gussets minimize crane deflection to accurately position loads
  • Supports various types of hoists, vacuum lifters, manipulators, and balancers

Applications of Freestanding Jib Cranes

Before selecting a freestanding jib, your facility must meet two key requirements — an adequate structural foundation and at least 3 inches of clearance above the boom. Freestanding jibs can overlap with other jibs to provide staged operation. Businesses can install this machinery:

  • In an open area indoors or outdoors to serve several workstations
  • Under other large bridge cranes
  • In machine assembly operations
  • In loading docks
