We build a 95,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on the edge of Pennsylvania’s Amish country in Morgantown, PA. Today, the Morgantown facility is Spanco headquarters and our core manufacturing facility. We also introduce workstation cranes that use imported Met-Track™ from Helm in Germany via Metreel in England.
Richard Uhlig founds Spanco, Inc. in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. We start by manufacturing a small line of Spanco Adjustable Gantry Cranes and Tripod Cranes. As the business takes off, we add Spanco Jib Cranes and Workstation Bridge Cranes.
George Uhlig (Richard Uhlig’s father) invents the first truly safe cable lever ratchet hoist with an interlocking double-pawl ratchet system to ensure that one pawl always holds the load.
